Photography Painting with Bob Ross

Photography As Art | Fine Art Photography

One of the key lessons that Bob Ross taught was to not be afraid of making mistakes. In photography, this can mean experimenting with different angles, lighting, and compositions to find what works best for you. Don't be afraid to try new things and make mistakes along the way.

Low tide at Cannon beach with Haystack rock standing above the surf. The sunset makes a beautiful refection in the tide as it goes back out to sea.

I went to Cannon beach in Oregon in hopes to get a beautiful sunset with Haystack rock. It was a chilly evening filled with clouds. Then right before sunset the clouds broke thru with some amazing light. Cannon Beach is a small coastal city in northwest Oregon. It’s also known for its long, sandy shoreline. Standing tall in the ocean, Haystack Rock is a seasonal haven for tufted puffins. Its also known for the movie Goonies.

Another important lesson from Bob Ross is the idea of finding beauty in the world around us. This can apply to photography as well, where we can find beauty in the smallest details of everyday life. Whether it's a beautiful sunset or the way the light falls on a leaf, there is always something to be captured through the lens of a camera. Bob Ross was all about the joy of creating art and the process of creating something beautiful. In photography, it's important to remember that it's not just about the end result, but also about the experience of capturing a moment in time and creating something that is uniquely yours.

So while Bob Ross may not have been a photographer himself, his philosophy of creating art can certainly be applied to the world of photography. Remember to not be afraid of making mistakes, find beauty in the world around you, and enjoy the process of creating something beautiful through your photography.

Bob Ross believed that everyone could be an artist. He encouraged people to try painting and to not be discouraged by mistakes. The same can be said for photography. With the widespread availability of smartphones and digital cameras, anyone can be a photographer.

One of the key elements of Bob Ross' paintings is his use of light. He often used warm colors to create a sense of sunlight and warmth. In photography, light is also crucial. The golden hour, which is the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset, is the perfect time to capture warm, glowing light.

Rules of Composition for Photography

Bob Ross was also a master of composition. He often created depth in his paintings by using foreground, midground, and background elements. In photography, the same principles apply. By using leading lines, foreground objects, and layers, you can create a sense of depth and make your images more interesting.

Another aspect of Bob Ross' paintings is the sense of calm and serenity they evoke. He often painted tranquil landscapes with gentle streams, rolling hills, and peaceful forests. In photography, you can also capture these same feelings by focusing on nature and capturing landscapes that evoke a sense of tranquility.
