Hiking Glacier National Park: A Photographer's Reflection

Nestled deep within the embrace of the Rocky Mountains lies a place that has stolen my heart time and time again – Glacier National Park. As a photographer, I've had the privilege of wandering through its pristine landscapes, camera in hand, ready to capture the fleeting moments of magic that dance across its rugged terrain. Now, as I reflect on my experiences in this enchanting wilderness, I'm excited to share the beauty and wonder of Glacier with fellow photographers through my online gallery and immersive hiking workshop.

A Journey of Discovery

My journey of hiking Glacier National Park began with a simple desire to immerse myself in the raw, untamed beauty of the natural world. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the park's dramatic landscapes – towering peaks in the sky, crystal clear lakes reflecting the beautiful sunrises, and glaciers just clinging to the rugged slopes. It really was unlike any place I'd seen before and each day brought new discoveries, new vistas to explore, and new moments of awe-inspiring beauty to capture with my camera.

Golden Sunset on Going-to-the-Sun Road

One of the most enchanting experiences in Glacier National Park is witnessing the sun sink below the horizon along the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road. As evening approaches, the jagged peaks of the Rockies cast long shadows, and the stunning red flowers painted the landscape in colors. Standing at the road's edge, with the sky starting to light up as beams of sunlight shone through the clouds, I felt an immense excitement along with a sense of reverence for the beauty that was every where I looked. As the last rays of sunlight shined on the towering mountains, I knew I was witnessing a moment of pure magic – a fleeting glimpse of the sublime beauty that defines Glacier National Park...and I had captured it with my camera.

Encounters with Wildlife | Logan Pass

One of the most exhilarating aspects of exploring Glacier National Park is the opportunity to encounter its resident wildlife up close and personal. We had multiple encounters with bears that patrol the meadows, and each encounter was a reminder of the delicate balance of life in this wilderness sanctuary. Having been trained in bear safety, I was able to stay a safe distance away and enjoy the encounter with my telephoto lens.

Mountain goats are a little easier to capture and are fun to watch their playful antics. I captured this one along Logan Pass and I am always conscience of how important it is to preserve and protect this balance of human and nature by keeping my distance and respecting the space of any wildlife. It is always a privilege and a treat to be able to see and capture these encounters.

Sharing the Magic | Hiking Glacier National Park Workshop

Through our photography workshop in Glacier National Park, I've had the privilege of sharing my passion for photography with fellow adventurers and artists from around the world. Together, we've explored hidden valleys, chased the light across mountain peaks, and immersed ourselves in the beauty of this extraordinary landscape. Guided by myself and Nick Selway, we've learned new techniques, honed our skills, and forged lasting friendships along the way. It's always our goal to create a fun, relaxed environment where you can be comfortable asking the questions you need to level up your photography and bring home some amazing images of your own.

Preserving the Legacy

As photographers, we have a unique opportunity – and a profound responsibility – to document and preserve the beauty of the natural world for future generations. In Glacier National Park, where every sunrise brings a new masterpiece and every sunset paints the sky in fiery hues, this responsibility feels especially poignant. Through our photography, we strive to capture not just the grandeur of the landscape, but also the intimate moments of beauty and wonder that make Glacier truly special.
