Workshop Itinerary | The Wave Photo Tour

During The Wave photography workshop, we'll explore the captivating landscapes around Kanab, Utah and the surrounding areas. We'll maintain a fluid schedule that accommodates spontaneous photo opportunities, unique lighting conditions, and the interests of the group. Our aim is to create a dynamic and rewarding experience, embracing the unpredictability of nature while capturing the stunning beauty of this remarkable region. The schedule below is an example of what to expect with the day of April 17th being the only fixed day due to the required permit.

Day 1: Arrival in Kanab. Meet at 4 pm and head out to shoot sunset at the Toadstools in Grand Staircase-Escalante. Bring snacks or plan to eat a late dinner after shooting.

Day 2: This is the day we'll go hike The Wave! This will be a full day so we can take advantage of all this area has to offer and the hidden treasures within. The Wave permit for Coyote Buttes North allows for 24 hours of access and if the group desires, we'll go in early and/or stay late and photography the night sky if we have clear skies.

Day 3: This day we will get a later start as we give a little time to recover from The Wave. We'll explore Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Red Canyon (Peek-a-Boo Canyon), and Horseshoe Bend for sunset.

Day 4: Explore the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area where we will have a wide variety of landscapes and abstract photography as we wander our way through breathtaking canyons and rock formations.

Again, the above is just an example. Know we'll immerse ourselves in the awe-inspiring landscapes and embrace the unpredictability of nature to capture the stunning beauty of this remarkable region.

Travel, Transportation & Lodging Information

For this photography tour of the Wave and beyond we'll be staying in Kanab, Utah and the central meeting point will be the Holiday Inn Express in Kanab.

Travel & Transportation

To get to Kanab, the closest major airport is Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas which is about three and a half hours away. There is a regional airport in St. George which is another option if you can find a good price on flights and timing works out. You'll want to arrive by about 3pm on the first day of the workshop so we can meet prior to going to to shoot our first evening. You'll likely want to plan to fly home on 4/20 if you'll be staying for sunset on 4/19 as the sun sets about 8:30 and we'll be about an hour from Kanab.

Travel to/from the airport to Kanab is not included in the price of the workshop. Plan to arrange for ride share transportation or rent a car to get to and from your hotel and meet us at the Holiday Inn Express in Kanab to being our daily excursion.

Hotel accommodations are not included in the workshop fee which allows you to choose from a nearby Airbnb or hotel that fits your preferences. In Kanab you can find the Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites, Days Inn & Suites, among others. The workshop begins on the evening of 4/16 and will end after sunset on 4/19. It may make the most sense to plan to check on on 4/16 and check out on 4/20 but it depends on the timing of your flights and which airport you're using.
